The MPRI is a statewide collaborative effort administered through a public and private partnership, including the Department of Corrections, Department of Labor and Economic Growth, Department of Community Health, Department of Human Services, Department of Education, Public Policy Associates, and the Michigan Council on Crime & Delinquency.The Statistics
Michigan has the fifth largest corrections system in the nation. In 2006, $1.78 billion was budgeted for MDOC, exceeding 20% of Michigan's general fund! Each year more than 10,000 prisoners are released from Michigan's prisons. Approximately 48% of former prisoners will return to prison within two years, costing the state $112 million per year.
